A Poppin’ Plant for Your Winter Landscape
Few sights are as enchanting as a landscape freshly covered in sparkling snow. Its quiet beauty is captivating; yet, after weeks and weeks of the same wintry view, even the most picturesque scene starts to feel a bit dull. That’s where a plant like Berry Poppins® winterberry holly (Ilex verticillata) comes in! With its bright burst of color, this plant guarantees that your winter landscape won’t fall flat.

Standing at a height and width of 3-4 feet, Berry Poppins is smaller than traditional winterberry hollies. Its dwarf habit fits beautifully into home landscapes, where it takes center stage during the chilly winter months. This heavy-fruiting variety produces an abundance of vibrant red berries that pop against the glistening white backdrop.
And the eye-catching display offers more than just holiday charm; these berries bring life back into the garden, attracting various birds in search of a nutritious snack.
Caring for Berry Poppins® Winterberry
Berry Poppins winterberry is a native shrub suited to USDA zones 3-9. It grows well in full to part sun, requiring a minimum of four hours of direct sunlight. Keep in mind that the more sun it gets, the better the berry set it’ll produce. It grows easily in tough conditions but does prefer a slightly acidic pH. We do not recommend pruning this plant, as that can impact both its berry display and flower production.
Berry Poppins is a female selection, so a male pollinator is necessary for it to fruit. We recommend the handsome Mr. Poppins® winterberry, which just needs to be planted within 50 feet of the female variety.
