Planting for Pollinators and Heat
One of the best parts of gardening is the connection we form with nature, and I’m not just referring to the plants themselves. Our Chicklet® series acts as a beautiful bridge, drawing pollinators into your space all summer long. Chicklet® Red trumpet bush/esperanza (Tecoma stans) is the latest addition, offering the same long bloom window and large flowers as the rest of the series, but in a fiery red hue that will have hummingbirds excitedly darting in and out.

Chicklet Red esperanza blooms from summer until frost. Its trumpet-shaped flowers are the star of the show, appearing extra vibrant against its healthy green foliage. Growing in a compact habit, it matures to 3–4′ tall and 2–3′ wide. Its color and manageable size work nicely in a mixed flower garden or for filling in the middle of a landscape bed.
While Chicklet Red esperanza is suited to USDA zones 8–11, gardeners in cooler climates don’t have to miss out. It makes an excellent, low-maintenance patio or container plant, blooming in full force throughout the summer.
For best results, plant it in full sun and any well-drained soil. It is a tough shrub that performs well in a range of conditions, including heat and drought. It is also disease- and deer-resistant. Little pruning is needed, but you can shape it in early spring if you like. And because it blooms on new wood, you won’t have to worry about losing any of its floral show.
