Goodbye 2024
As 2024 comes to a close, you may be thinking about plans for 2025, and if you’re like me, you’re thinking about your 2025 garden. The Proven Winners ColorChoice website has plenty of resources to help you and inspire you to create a garden space you’ll love for years to come. If you’re looking to add an easy care plant that adds vertical interest to your garden this coming year, ‘Diamond Ball’ clematis (Clematis) is a lovely choice.

From June through August, ‘Diamond Ball’ is covered in large, cool white (or icy pale blue) blooms. Each bloom is semi-spherical and reaches 4-5” in diameter. This beautiful vine will grow to 6-8’ tall and 4-5’ wide on really any sturdy structure you provide, a trellis, fence, or arbor!
This clematis is hardy to USDA zone 4 and heat tolerant to USDA zone 9; on the cooler end of that range, it will thrive in full sun, and on the warmer end, it benefits from some afternoon shade. No matter where you grow it, it does best with the base of the plant shaded (this can be done with mulch or other plants).
‘Diamond Ball’ clematis is an easy-care clematis; it doesn’t need to be pruned as it reliably blooms on both old and new wood. If desired, it may be cut back to 3’ in spring.
Year Round Interest
Has this winter made you realize you have a lack of year-round interest in your garden? There are plenty of shrubs you can add to your space to give you year-long appeal, but maybe you’re looking for something other than your usual conifers. Check out Kristina’s “Non-Conifer Shrubs for Year-Round Interest” blog for some out-of-the-ordinary shrubs you can add to your garden for beauty in every season.
