A Vision in White
Always the bridesmaid, never the bride. While that may be true for some shrubs, it’s certainly not the case for Fairytrail Bride® Cascade Hydrangea® (Hydrangea x). Since its original unveiling at the Chelsea Flower Show in 2018*, this remarkable plant has continued to captivate gardeners each spring with its unique horizontal habit and impressive flower power.
Fairytrail Bride Cascade Hydrangea is known for its dramatic floral display. Setting buds at every leaf node, its white flowers bloom in abundance along the entire length of its trailing stems. This cascading effect paints a picture of romantic elegance, further enhanced by the lacy appearance of its deckle-edged petals.
So, what makes for a successful union between this plant and the garden? Well, like any great partnership, compatibility is key. Fairytrail Bride Cascade Hydrangea thrives in the following conditions:
- USDA zone: 5-9
- Light Exposure: Part Sun. Morning shade is particularly important to mitigate the early-season impact of spring frosts and freezes.
- Soil: Moist and well-draining. Sogginess is a dealbreaker.
When planted in the right environment, Fairytrail Bride can reach a height and width of 4 feet. Its horizontal growth looks great spilling over a retaining wall, and its flowing stems make it a graceful choice for hanging baskets and patio displays.
*Originally introduced as Runaway Bride, this variety was made available to the North American market in 2022 under the name Fairytrail Bride® Cascade Hydrangea®.
