A Pop of Color for Your Winter Garden
A vibrant evergreen that gives your winter garden some much-needed color. The winter landscape can be a little dull, but there are shrubs that can add a vibrant glow to your space! Glow Pop® Japanese holly (Ilex crenata) really pops in the landscape year-round.

In spring, Glow Pop® holly’s new growth emerges a vibrant yellow, maturing to a fresh green in the summer heat before returning to an electric yellow as the weather cools in fall. At 2-3’ tall and wide, Glow Pop® naturally grows in a neat, rounded shape.
This little evergreen is cold hardy to USDA zone 5 and heat tolerant to USDA zone 8. For the best color and habit, plant Glow Pop® in full to part sun. It will grow in shade, but the color will be muted, and the habit will be more sparse and open. Pruning isn’t necessary, but if you’d like to shape Glow Pop® at all, do so in the late winter or early spring.
Welcome Olivia!
For those who don’t know who’s been writing these Plant of the Week posts for the past two years, it’s me, Sam! I’ve enjoyed sharing my thoughts and introducing you to some great Proven Winners® ColorChoice® shrubs each week. In order to give myself more time for other projects this year, I am passing the metaphorical Plant of the Week pen to Olivia Marzolf. I’m excited to see all the great things Olivia does for this blog!
Thank you for reading each week, and happy gardening!
