There’s no need to hedge your bets; Hedge Box® Japanese holly (Ilex crenata) is a guaranteed winner! Trialed and tested by Proven Winners ColorChoice, this impressive plant delivers rock-solid results in the landscape. Adaptable and tough, it’s a reliable choice for those tricky spots in need of some green.

Hedge Box Japanese holly grows in a narrow, upright habit that fits nicely into tight spaces. Its glossy evergreen foliage remains lush and healthy throughout the year, providing a constant source of interest within the landscape. Even better, it has a flat leaf shape, which helps prevent spider mites, a common pest that troubles holly with spoon-shaped leaves.

Hedge Box Japanese holly is suited to USDA zones 5 – 9. It enjoys full to part sun and acidic soil but will grow in a range of conditions. A tough, low-maintenance plant, it tolerates pollution and salt, making it an excellent choice for urban areas. In our trials, we also found it to be very adaptable to both hot and cold temperatures. Pruning shouldn’t be needed to maintain its handsome shape, which will mature to a height of 4 – 7′ and a width of 2 – 3′.
