Hollywood Hibiscus Social Butterfly

A Touch of the Tropics

Summer vacation is right around the corner, and even if you’re staying local, you can still bring a bit of paradise home with Hollywood Hibiscus® Social Butterfly™ (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis). As part of our Hollywood Hibiscus series, this tropical plant adds a splash of color to Southern gardens. For those further north, you don’t have to miss out completely—it makes a very stylish patio plant during the warmer months.

Hollywood Hibiscus Social Butterfly has gorgeous flowers that are larger and showier than most tropical hibiscus. Its blooms fully open into wide, flat discs that are a striking blend of yellow and pink with deep magenta centers. These vibrant colors pop against glossy green foliage that displays impressive disease resistance throughout the season.

Suited to USDA zones 9–11, Hollywood Hibiscus Social Butterfly loves the heat. It does not like or tolerate cold temperatures; however, it does make an excellent container plant for northern gardeners, perfect for brightening up summer porches before moving indoors when temperatures drop.

  • Exposure: Full sun; light shade is fine in hot climates.
  • Soil: Average, well-drained soil. In containers, use a good container mix.
  • Water: Average to high; enjoys high humidity.
  • Fertilizer: Fertilize regularly with a balanced fertilizer. Avoid “bloom boosters” or any fertilizers with a high amount of phosphorus.

The Hollywood Hibiscus series is more than just beautiful flowers. Beyond their gorgeous colors, these varieties were designed with the details in mind, offering:

  • Upward-facing, fully open blooms
