Plant of the Week: INVINCIBELLE LIMETTA® Smooth hydrangea

Happy Canada Day!

What better way to celebrate than with this delightful version of our native Hydrangea arborescens, Invincibelle Limetta®?

It’s perfect for a party weekend, and that’s what this is. Canada Day, and then July 4 holiday in the U.S. on Sunday. We should all celebrate the longest undefended border in the world by having one mega-cookout weekend.

That’s why Invincibelle Limetta® is so perfect. It’s beautiful but also kind of mellow with its soft green blooms. It captures the “I’m celebrating but in a way that won’t give me heat stroke” vibe that is important for a July party.

Invincibelle Limetta® is a dwarf plant, growing 3-4′ tall and wide. That makes it big enough to make a nice low hedge but small enough to fit into any garden.

The pretty green flowers will soften to greenish-white later in the summer before shifting back to green. It’s a very strong rebloomer, so there are always beautiful fresh blooms to enjoy. If you want a nice cool palette for your landscape, this is the plant.

Since it’s hardy in USDA 3-8, it will grow in most of Canada and the U.S. Let’s plant some this weekend to celebrate! It will grow in sun or part shade, so just pick the best spot to admire it from your grill.

We miss you!

While we still can’t visit our Canadian friends, and frankly, those 115° temperatures intimidate us Great Lakes folks, we hope that we’ll see some of you at Cultivate later this month.

In the meantime, you can virtually visit our gardens: Our office-mate, Kristina, posts garden tours on YouTube. They’re a wonderful way to see cool new plants in action!
