Shifting Foliage for Season-to-Season Interest
Keep your garden interesting across seasons with the ever-changing Metamorphosa® Japanese maple (Acer palmatum). This dynamic plant features uniquely textured foliage that constantly transforms in color, making your landscape one to watch from spring through fall.

Emerging in spring, Metamorphosa Japanese maple appears with brightly colored yellow-green foliage. The edges of the dissected leaves gradually display a pink margin before transitioning to white with tints of reddish-orange by summer. As fall arrives, the entire leaf turns a blazing orange-red, which eventually settles to a striking red-violet.
Metamorphosa is an own-root Japanese maple that is suited to USDA zones 5b-8 and thrives in full sun to part sun conditions. Its growth habit is quite versatile, reaching a height between 5-13′ and a width between 3-10′. If desired, you can easily train the shrubby plant into a small multi-stemmed tree.
In general, Metamorphosa Japanese maple is relatively low maintenance, adapting to all soil types as long as there is good drainage. It is disease-resistant, so you can trust the foliage to maintain its charming color and texture throughout the seasons. It does not require regular pruning; rather, it looks its best when left alone without much shaping.
