Pretty Neat!
With the colder weather coming in, evergreens like boxwood give the landscape some much-needed color. But if you’re in a cool climate with harsher winters, boxwoods can lose their shiny green color in winter, replaced by bronze or a paler color. With Neatball® boxwood (Buxus microphylla), you don’t need to worry about that, as it holds its color better than other boxwoods.

Neatball® boxwood grows in a tidy globe shape and boasts handsome dark green foliage that stays green. Use this neat shrub as a low hedge, border plant, or even in a container. It looks great in so many garden roles. It’s incredibly deer-resistant, too; in fact, it’s a part of our Deer Proof™ program!
This little shrub is also more cold tolerant than other boxwoods, growing even in USDA zone 4b (zones 4b-9). It thrives in full sun to full shade and grows to 2-3’ tall and 3’ wide.
Neatball® naturally grows in a tidy globe shape, so there’s no need to prune it to keep it looking neat. If any shaping is desired, do so in late spring after the new growth has emerged but before it hardens off.
Growing Shrubs in Containers
Do you have a patio, deck, or balcony that’s in need of a shrub? Container gardening is a great way to add interest to these more difficult locations. Get some shrub recommendations and learn all about growing shrubs in containers in Kristina’s “Container Gardening with Shrubs” blog.
