Plant of the Week: PROUD BERRY® Pearl Snowberry

PROUD BERRY® Pearl Snowberry in the landscape

A Showstopping Snowberry

Berries, berries, and more berries! Proud Berry® Pearl snowberry (Symphoricarpos x) delivers just what its name promises—an abundant set of large, pure white berries that pop against its blue-green foliage.

PROUD BERRY® Pearl Snowberry produces abundant berries.

Highly adaptable and easy to grow, this shrub is an excellent choice for extending visual interest into fall. Its heavy crop of fruit develops in August and stays unblemished for weeks, or even a couple of months if conditions aren’t too wet. Bolstered by its deer resistance, it serves as a dependable accent in your yard, delivering a fine finish to the season.

Proud Berry Pearl snowberry thrives in USDA zones 3-7. Growing well in full to part sun, it is a tough landscape plant that tolerates poor and urban soils. At 2-3′ tall and 2′ wide, it is a great compact option for the front of a border, while its berry-filled stems make a lovely addition to a cut flower arrangement.

Do note that while Symphoricarpos berries may look nice, they are not edible for humans. But don’t worry; they won’t go to waste! As they soften, birds will happily stop by for a late-season snack.
