Plant of the Week: PUGSTER SORBET® Butterfly Bush

A Treat for Your Garden!

While summer may be winding down, I’d be remiss not to highlight this seasonal standout that continues to perform beautifully even now. Pugster Sorbet® butterfly bush (Buddleia) will be available at garden centers next year, and it’s well worth adding to your wish list.

PUGSTER SORBET® Butterfly Bush

Covered in large, multicolored blooms, Pugster Sorbet butterfly bush brings a truly delicious look to the garden. Its pastel flower spikes resemble scoops of ice cream, delighting pollinators and gardeners alike. At just 2-3′ tall and wide, its dwarf habit is an easy fit in the landscape. Plus, you’ll love that it’s a member of our InCheck program, so you can plant it with peace of mind!

Pugster Sorbet butterfly bush grows well in USDA zones 5-10. For best results, place in full sun and well-draining soil, as it dislikes being overly wet or soggy. It is very drought-tolerant once established—perfect for hot summer days. Butterfly bushes are known to leaf out late, so have a bit of patience and watch for pale green leaf buds to emerge at the base of the plant as the weather warms.

A Pollinator Magnet

While it’s to be expected, it’s still a sight worth sharing! Pugster Sorbet butterfly bush is an absolute favorite for pollinators all season long. In fact, ours are still entertaining monarch butterflies, which are busy getting their last bit of nectar before their fall migration. The photo below doesn’t quite do it justice but see how many you can count!
