A Sweet-scented Showstopper

If you have a fence, trellis, or arbor that’s in need of a breathtaking vine, I have a noninvasive honeysuckle to tell you about today that may just be the plant you’re searching for. As its name suggests, ‘Scentsation’ honeysuckle (Lonicera periclymenum) is an extremely fragrant vine that climbs structures with ease.

In mid-spring, this lush vine is covered with showy yellow flowers that smell delightful and attract pollinators galore, but no worries, deer are disinterested in ‘Scentsation’ honeysuckle. These cheery flowers last into late summer and are followed by bright red berries.

‘Scentsation’ honeysuckle is cold hardy to USDA zone 4 and heat tolerant to USDA zone 9. It thrives in full sun exposure and really any type of soil. It can climb to heights of 8-10’ and spread 2-4’ wide. This beautiful vine is incredibly low-maintenance, with no need to prune. If you do wish to trim it, do so after flowering; just be aware that trimming will remove the formation of the red berries.
