A Showstopping Crabapple

This week, I am excited to discuss the 2025 – 2026 Tree of the Year: the stunning Show Time™ Crabapple (Malus x). A star in the Proven Winners® ColorChoice® Tree program, this ornamental beauty commands attention with a floral show so charming you won’t be able to take your eyes off it!

Blooming in spring, Show Time™ crabapple stands out right from the start. Its branches are densely covered in bright fuchsia flowers, drawing in both pollinators and spectators. While some might consider this its showstopping moment, Show Time™ crabapple isn’t quite ready for its curtain call. Transforming once again in fall, the tree reveals an equally captivating display of shiny red fruit and vibrant red/orange foliage that blazes in the autumn sun.    

​​Show Time™ crabapple grows to a height of 25’ and a width of 15-20’. Its upright, oval habit brings a sense of formality and elegance to the landscape, making it a great choice for a specimen or street tree. Here at Spring Meadow Nursery, we actually have a few planted outside the office, which are always a joy to see throughout the workday!

Suited to USDA zones 4-8, Show Time™ crabapple thrives in spaces with full sun. It prefers moist but well-drained soil that is slightly acidic; however, it can be adaptable as long as the conditions aren’t too extreme. It has average water needs and displays some drought tolerance once established. Regular pruning is not needed, but you can trim some branches to achieve a desired shape or habit.
