A Shrub That Packs a Punch
If you’re spending this fall dreaming of a spring garden that will really knock people’s socks off, consider adding a spring bloomer with a real wow factor like a Sonic Bloom® weigela. Sonic Bloom® Punch weigela (Weigela florida) is the newest addition to the series, and despite its compact size, it has a real big impact in the garden.

In spring, this beauty is absolutely covered in a flurry of dense dark pink blooms. The plentiful flower show not only looks stunning, but it feeds pollinators as well. After the big spring bloom, Sonic Bloom® Punch reblooms through summer into fall, extending the show. It makes a great cut flower or foliage filler in flower arrangements, too!
At 2.5-4’ tall and 4’ wide, Sonic Bloom® Punch is the most compact weigela in the Sonic Bloom® series. It is cold hardy to USDA Zone 4 and heat tolerant to USDA Zone 8 and thrives in full sun.
Regular pruning isn’t required to keep Sonic Bloom® Punch weigela looking beautiful as it maintains its compact habit naturally. It does benefit from a rejuvenation prune every 3 to 5 years; just remove ⅓ of the thickest branches all the way to the ground.
Rabbit Resistant Shrubs
Rabbits can be a delight to see hopping around your garden, but unfortunately, they can also do quite a bit of damage to your plants, taking nibbles from your flowers and foliage. If you have issues with rabbits in your garden, consider adding some rabbit-resistant shrubs, like weigela, to your space. Kristina has put together a list of 16 lovely shrubs that will remain unharmed by rabbits in her “Rabbit Resistant Shrubs” blog.
