A Shrub You Want to Hug

Tall, narrow, dense, and lush, when you see this shrub in the landscape, you just want to give it a big hug. Yardline® viburnum (Viburnum x) goes the extra mile to provide easy-care beauty in the landscape or garden.

This handsome shrub offers year-round interest in the garden with its leathery evergreen foliage that looks lush no matter the season. In spring, Yardline® is covered with clusters of lovely white flowers, which develop into red late summer/fall berries when a suitable pollinator (Viburnum awabuki) is planted nearby.

Yardline® viburnum is also low-maintenance as it’s free of pests and disease, deer-resistant, and once established, it’s quite drought-tolerant. It also doesn’t require pruning as it maintains a dense and narrow habit naturally; in fact, if flowers and fruit are desired, it shouldn’t be pruned at all.

At 6-12’ tall and 3-4’ wide, it’s a perfect size for a space-saving privacy hedge or screen. Yardline® is suited for USDA zones 7-10 and thrives in full to part sun.

Pruning Shrubs

If you have anxiety when it comes to pruning shrubs, you’re not alone. After all, not every shrub has the no pruning needed maintenance of Yardline® viburnum. Knowing which shrubs benefit from a prune, when they should be pruned, and how to prune them is a daunting task, especially if you have multiple different kinds of shrubs, all with different pruning recommendations. Kristina compiled a list of 46 common shrubs and put together a blog giving you pruning tips and timing info for each one so you can prune with confidence.
