Plant of the Week: Double Play® Dolly™ Spirea

Colorful, Durable, and Compact

Are you looking for an easy-care and adaptable plant, but you also want something that has fun and unique color? You need something that is not only practical but also ornamental. Don’t underestimate a good spirea! The Double Play® Spirea series offers all the great traits of spirea in a range of colors that can fit into any garden’s color palette. Today I want to introduce you to the newest member of the series: Double Play® Dolly™ Spirea

Carefree Color

Double Play® Dolly™ offers a unique new color combination with its vibrant purple flowers sitting above bright yellow foliage. In spring, the leaves emerge in shades of orange-red before transitioning to yellow; by late spring, the purple flowers appear and bloom until late summer, drawing in plenty of pollinators.

This colorful shrub is eye-catching and so low maintenance, making it a great choice for practically any garden and gardener! It doesn’t require pruning, but for a cleaner appearance, you can trim it in early spring. You can also give it a light trim after its first bloom to encourage new growth.

Double Play® Dolly™ has a naturally neat and compact habit, growing just 1.5-2.5’ tall and wide. It is deer-resistant and drought-tolerant.

It is hardy in USDA 3-8 and will grow in either full sun or part shade. If you are looking for the best possible color display, full sun will be your friend! If you’re in a warmer climate, it will benefit from a little afternoon shade.
