This Rose Looks Good Enough to Eat!

It’s almost Mother’s Day, and if you’re still searching for the perfect gift for mom, roses are a classic choice. Rather than getting her a bouquet of roses, why not get her a rose shrub that she can enjoy year after year? Better yet, get her a rose that not only looks beautiful but tastes good, too! Flavorette® Honey-Apricot rose (Rosa) is one of the delectable roses in our new Flavorette® series of edible roses.

The orange-apricot rounded flowers on Flavorette® Honey-Apricot bloom continuously through the summer without the need to deadhead. With great landscape performance, this beauty will fit into many gardens: cottage gardens, herb gardens, rose gardens, and cut flower gardens! And no matter where you plant it, you can grab a quick sample of the sweet petals as you stroll by or collect a bouquet to use in salads or as a garnish for desserts like cake or cupcakes.

Flavorette® Honey-Apricot is quite large with a more upright habit, growing to 5-8’ tall and 3-4’ wide. It’s suited for USDA zones 4-8 and thrives in full sun; if planted in an area that receives less than six hours of sun, flowering will not be as prolific.

It’s best to prune in early spring. Remove weak branches in the middle and about ⅓ of the shrub’s height and width. Make your cuts about ¼ of an inch above a healthy bud. You can remove dead or damaged wood at any time; just cut back to a set of leaves.

Summer Cut Flowers

Flavorette® Honey-Apricot makes a great cut flower! For a longer vase life, cut vertically up the stem about two inches to help it absorb more water and remove any excess foliage.
