When in bloom, Jolly Good clematis dazzles in the landscape with lush green foliage and light purple flowers accented by striking magenta undertones. The cluster of creamy white stamens at the center of each blossom adds dimension and texture to the plant’s overall appearance, offering a delightful contrast to the vivid colors of the petals and the smooth form of the leaves.

Considered a vigorous grower, Jolly Good clematis can reach a height of 6-7′ and a width of 2-3′. Despite its robust growth, it maintains a compact form. This variety can be trained as a climbing vine along fences or trellises and is a great way to add vertical interest to your outdoor space.

Caring for Jolly Good™ Clematis

If you’ve ever grown a clematis, you’re probably familiar with the adage, “feet in the shade, head in the sun.” And, if you want success with Jolly Good, it is best to follow this saying. Suited to USDA zones 4-9, this variety thrives when its roots and base are kept shaded, while its vines enjoy the sun. You can keep the lower portion of the plant cool by positioning mulch, rocks, or neighboring plants as shade cover.

Jolly Good clematis needs well-draining soil. It also prefers neutral or slightly alkaline conditions. Since this plant flowers on both old and new wood, you can prune it back to 2′ in spring, and it will be ready to grow for the summer.
