No April fooling here. Even in normal-ish years, I don’t like April Fools Day: most of the pranks are more cruel than clever. And right now, no one needs more mean tricks in their lives.
But this plant might wake up people who need a bit of a brush-back pitch in life to keep from doing something stupid. I’m talking about Oso Easy® Urban Legend® rose. Sure, it looks pretty, but it’s got a bite. This is one prickly rose!

So that place in front of the lion exhibit? This is the plant to keep people from getting too close. Or perhaps to discourage would-be burglars from breaking into a home. Maybe you simply need to keep people from cutting across the lawn. Here’s your plant.
Oso Easy® Urban Legend® is more than just a thorny security guard. It’s pretty, too. The large red flowers are spectacular not just in quality but quantity, too. This rose puts on a fabulous flower display.
Sorry, no fragrance – but no spraying, either, since it’s got good disease resistance. In 2019 it won the ARS Award of Excellence in the No Spray category.
You’ll want to plant it in full sun and make sure it’s getting regular water. This plant is hardy in USDA 4-9, and grows 2.5-3′ tall and wide. That’s the perfect height for planting in front of windows, zoo exhibits, and maybe near the local middle school because junior high school students just generally need help making good decisions.

There’s not much I like more than talking about beautiful Proven Winners® ColorChoice® hydrangeas. So when the National Garden Bureau ask me to join their “Ask The Experts” panel for their upcoming hydrangea webinar, I jumped at the chance!
I’ll be joining expert panelists from my friends at Bailey Nurseries and Star® Roses and Plants.
The webinar is Friday, April 16, 11:00 AM Central – it’s free, but registration is required for live viewing or later viewing.
